My US Trip in 2008!!: Day 3 - Lake Tahoe Part 1

In the second part of our journey, we will be going to Lake Tahoe - a lake located along the border between California and Nevada, which needs 4-5 hours drive from Silicon Valley to the North side of the lake (North Lake Tahoe). Along the way, we stopped by at a pier called Berkeley Marina to take some photos.

At Berkeley Marina. Its really VERY windy though the sun is blazing hot. Look at how our hair flew and you will know how strong is the wind. Haa….

Well, after scrolling, its time to set off to Lake Tahoe. These were taken during our drive.

A glimpse of Lake Tahoe!!!! So foggy....

An introduction to Lake Tahoe, it is a basin formed between 2 crust blocks, with the Carson Range on the east and Sierra Nevada on the west. It is the 2nd deepest lake in US (after Crater Lake in Oregon). As a tourist attraction, activities include hiking, mountain biking, water sports and of course, skiing. There are residents staying there, mainly in the South Lake Tahoe city. Most of the activities, accomodations and dining places are also found there. North Lake Tahoe is more catered for skiing activities and resorts. Wonder why am i doing at North Lake Tahoe during summer? Well, just for fun lor. Since i'm already there so might as well go there and see. See my "achievements" there....

From North Lake Tahoe, it took 1 hour drive to South Lake Tahoe. On our way there, we stopped at the Emerald Bay vista point, which gave a view on this tiny shimmering blue-green bay surrounded by granite peaks with a very narrow entrance. Let's look at the Emerald Bay from the vista point.

Breathtaking??!!!

See the little island behind? That is the Fannette Island, the only island in the lake. We will be taking a cruise in M.S. Dixie II around South Lake Tahoe, with the cruise ship entering into Emerald Bay, and you will be able to see it at closer view.

Meanwhile, let’s enjoy more photos taken at the vista point.

This is the Eagle Falls which is a series of three successive waterfalls that pour into Emerald Bay. I only managed to take 2 falls because it was quite far away. Better than nothing right?
